Crackdown on Partitions in Abu Dhabi Villas
The Abu Dhabi Municipality continues to crack down on unauthorised renovations and partitions made in villas and flats as well as residential and commercial buildings.

The municipality aims to remove such illegal structures and constructions and take appropriate actions against offenders, a press release from the municipality has said.

Such partitions and extensions in Zaafraneh and Al Buttain area have been removed.

The purpose of the campaign is to prevent bachelors from living in residential and commercial areas.

Extensions and partitions are made in villas or apartments to house bachelors. This practice has adverse social and economic effects, the civic body said. The Municipal Services Sector recently rolled out an intensive inspection campaign in buildings and villas that flout the building conditions in Abu Dhabi, the release said.

The municipality demolished several buildings and removed extensions after taking the procedural steps like issuing warnings, disconnecting power and water supplies and providing grace period for people to move into alternative housing units.

The campaign is run in phases. In the first phase, 13 villas and a building in Zaafraneh were demolished.

The second phase was launched at Al Bateen where the municipal centre teams, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police and a specialised company, removed the makeshift plaster and timber walls as well as unauthorised extensions. Al Bateen Municipal Centre also ran a campaign at 14/1 West Zone, where the inspection teams identified dozens of villas and buildings that flout (the norms.

Procedures are underway for removing all illegal structures according to a specific programme after obtaining the court orders, the release added.

The inspectors are checking whether the landlords and original tenants have removed the extensions and partitions even after being issued warnings, highlighting the hazards of continuing with the illegal structures on their lives, security and hygiene.

The municipality called on all residents of the buildings that violate the building codes to adhere to construction regulating laws and seek the required permits from Construction Permits Division and the affiliated centres for making extensions to safeguard lives and buildings, and avoid fines, the release said.
